NEMA 6P enclosures are designed for prolonged submersion and continuous water exposure. NEMA 4X enclosures are intended for outdoor use in environments with rain, splashing water, and corrosion, but they are not rated for submersion. 

The appropriate rating depends on whether water exposure is intermittent or sustained.
