Electrical enclosures on naval vessels are simultaneously exposed to saltwater and electromagnetic interference. We engineered the NAV-6P Marine Submersible Enclosure to address both threats in a single unit, with EMC/RFI shielding integrated into a submersible housing as a standard feature.

  • Dual Gasket EMC Shielding: EMC Dual Gasket Technology (EDGT) using Beryllium Copper provides 360° shielding to MIL-STD-285, keeping interference from reaching sensitive components when radar arrays and communication antennas operate adjacent to sealed electronics.

Naval Electrical Enclosure Applications

Our naval electrical enclosures are specified across surface, onshore, and underwater naval programs.

Surface Vessels

We manufacture the NAV-6P series in 316 stainless steel with EMC shielding. They serve as the standard for surface vessel installations to support combat systems and power distribution in systems that generate continuous electromagnetic interference across adjacent compartments.

Onshore Naval Infrastructure

Our NEMA 6P enclosures are designed for shore-based communications and dockside power systems. They feature the same 316 stainless steel used on vessel-mounted units, which simplifies logistics for bases maintaining both shipboard and shore-side installations.

Support and Auxiliary Vessels

Our enclosures for auxiliary and support vessels are commercially available off-the-shelf. Engineers can specify directly from our standard catalog without a custom design cycle or additional vendor qualification. The protection ratings remain the same as a custom-built unit: NEMA 6P / IP68, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-285.

Submarine and Underwater Systems

Our Subsea series serves applications requiring submersion beyond 15ft, rated to depths of 328ft/100m. These units support battery systems and instrumentation on underwater platforms.

Naval Enclosure Materials and Construction

The environments described above place specific demands on enclosure materials and construction.

Steel and Finish

Our naval enclosures are manufactured in Type 316 stainless steel, 14 gauge (2.00mm), with a #4 polished finish as standard. Alternative finishes include Navy Grey, White, Black, and Anodized Black to meet vessel-specific requirements.

Corrosion Resistance

All seams are continuously welded and ground smooth, eliminating gaps and crevices where saltwater can pool and start corroding the metal from the inside out. The 316 alloy contains molybdenum, which resists pitting and the type of corrosion caused by chloride exposure in marine environments. Every unit is salt-spray-tested to ASTM B117 before it ships. This construction results in fewer corroded units to replace and less downtime for maintenance over the life of the installation.

EMC Shielding

EMC shielding is achieved through our Dual Gasket system. A single-piece Neoprene gasket provides the environmental seal. In contrast, a secondary Beryllium Copper gasket provides 360° electromagnetic shielding around the enclosure perimeter. Both gaskets seat within a single closure mechanism.

Impact and Certification

Impact protection is rated to IK10, equivalent to a 5kg mass dropped from 400mm. All units are tested and certified to IEC 60529 (ingress protection), MIL-STD-810 (environmental endurance), and MIL-STD-285 (EMC shielding performance).
