NEMA 6P / IP68 ENCLOSURES
NEMA 6P Enclosures provide the highest degree of protection against water / dust ingress and corrosion. NEMA 6P is the equivalent to an IP68 rating with the addition of a corrosion resistant element. This is why NEMA 6P enclosures are commonly made from high grade Stainless Steel. Both enclosure types are capable of being submerged under a limited height of water whilst protecting the components inside.
SLAYSON® offers a range of NEMA 6P and IP68 Enclosures manufactured from different materials such as Stainless Steel, Powder Coated Aluminum and Polyurethane Composite, their adherence to the NEMA 250 standard make them corrosion resistant and waterproof to specified depths.
SLAYSON’s® range of Standard Off the Shelf Enclosures provide protection for your vital equipment against common issues such as rain, prolonged water submersion, ice formation, dust ingress and corrosive environments. NEMA 6P enclosures are commonly used in areas prone to water submersion and heavy water wash-down applications.

WHAT IS NEMA 6P?
NEMA Type 6P definition as per NEMA 250 STANDARD
Definition: Type 6P enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts; to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt); to provide a degree of protection with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (hose directed water and the entry of water during prolonged submersion at a limited depth); that provides an additional level of protection against corrosion and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.
SLAYSON® engineers, designs and manufactures enclosures to NEMA 6P in adherence to the NEMA rating requirement standards
Why is SLAYSON® the right choice in NEMA 6P enclosures to suit your application and environment?

Materials for SLAYSON® enclosures.
Stainless Steel
The most common material used for NEMA 6P enclosures is Type 316 Stainless Steel due to its excellent corrosion resistance and material strength under pressure. 316 Stainless Steel used in submersible enclosures contain higher levels of chrome and nickel ensuring much higher corrosion resistance, which is especially necessary within saltwater environments. Another useful feature of high-grade Stainless Steel is that due to this composition there is a reduced level of surface oxidation, which eliminates the need for paint or protective coatings. SLAYSON® Stainless Steel Enclosures come standard with a polished finish but are also available in alternate finishes such as non-reflective blasted and more. Contact the team at SLAYSON® for more information on our Stainless Steel and NEMA 6P and IP68 Enclosures
Aluminium Alloys
Aluminium alloys such as 5052, 6061 can be used for some NEMA 6P applications. Whilst these materials have reasonable corrosion resistance, they will be required to have a protective coating added to meet Type 6P requirements. Aluminium enclosures are also commonly used for IP68 rated enclosures, where corrosion problems are less of an issue.
Within marine and corrosive environments protective coatings such as powder coating is commonly applied to create a surface barrier which will inhibit corrosion. SLAYSON® has an extensive range of protective coatings available on all of our Aluminium enclosures. To learn more, reach out to the team at SLAYSON®.
Polyurethane Composite
Polyurethane Composite is commonly used within our SUBSEA range of enclosures which are exposed to much higher pressures. Polyurethane is corrosion resistant and suitable in all marine environments. SLAYSON® polyurethane enclosures come standard with Type 316 Stainless Steel Hardware to ensure corrosion protection within all environments.
One of the main benefits with a Polyurethane Composite material is the ability to increase sidewall thickness and minimise joints and potential fracture points. This is particularly useful in SUBSEA applications where protection from extreme pressure is required. SLAYSON® is also able to manufacture these types of enclosures in a variety of colours to suit your needs.
