Why Defense Programs Specify SLAYSON®
Off-the-shelf options rarely have the submersion ratings and environmental and electromagnetic performance required by design engineers working in defense programs. There are custom builds that do meet the spec, but they require dedicated tooling and months of lead time.
SLAYSON® military and defense submersible enclosures are commercially available base units already rated to NEMA 6P and IP68. Because each enclosure meets submersion and dust ingress requirements at the standard production level, defense engineers can move directly into configuration rather than waiting on new tooling or first-article testing. The COTS designation simplifies defense procurement by removing the requirement for facility-specific ISO manufacturing certifications during sourcing.
How It Works: Standard Enclosures With Application-Specific Accessories
SLAYSON® builds defense enclosures from standard production platforms already in our manufacturing range. Our team selects the base unit according to specifications, such as submersion depth and material requirements, which is then configured with program-specific accessories.
Base Enclosure Selection
Selection starts with the base enclosure, where we offer two series, depending on submersion requirements. Our NEMA 6P / IP68 submersible enclosures are specified for applications requiring prolonged submersion, while our waterproof NEMA 6 / IP67 enclosures best suit applications for temporary submersion or washdown environments. These provide the required protection without over-specifying the rating.
Material options across the defense range include 316 stainless steel for marine corrosion resistance and aerospace-grade aluminum for weight-sensitive platforms.
Accessories and Modifications
Once the base unit is selected, our team adds accessories to meet the client's system integration requirements, and configurations, such as:
- Connector Cutouts and Through Holes
- EMI/RFI shielding provisions for electromagnetic compatibility in secure communications systems
- Internal mounting panels and rails configured to the component layout
- Thermal management accessories, such as breather valves and passive heat dissipation systems
- Engraving and Backfilling decals
- Custom paint and finish to meet platform-specific operational or corrosion requirements
Each accessory integrates without compromising the enclosure's NEMA 6P or IP68 rating. We provide configured enclosures that match our client's specification and ships faster than a ground-up custom design.
Engineering Support Through Configuration
Our engineering team provides CAD models and detailed drawings as the configuration develops. We provide defense engineers the documentation needed to integrate enclosure data directly into system design packages and qualification documentation.
Your team can specify SLAYSON enclosures for defense systems with documentation confirming the final configuration matches the approved design.
Defense Applications
SLAYSON® defense enclosures are specified across programs where submersion, mechanical vibration, and corrosive exposure must be addressed during the design phase.
Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
SLAYSON® NEMA 6P and NEMA 6 enclosures are deployed in GSE applications where test equipment moves between climate-controlled storage and the flight line. That transition exposes electronics to condensation from thermal cycling, along with jet fuel vapor, hydraulic fluid, and de-icing agents present in apron environments.
Naval and Maritime Systems
Shipboard and dockside installations require prolonged saltwater submersion ratings and corrosion-resistant materials suited to marine-grade service. Manufactured from 316 stainless steel, our enclosures are purposefully built for these environments. The alloy's chromium and molybdenum content provides inherent resistance to saltwater corrosion, eliminating the reliance on surface coatings that degrade over time.
Battlefield Communications and Surveillance
Deployed communication nodes and surveillance arrays operate in contested environments where EMI/RFI shielding and environmental sealing both affect signal integrity. Our enclosures provide both capabilities within a single sealed housing.
