The Global Engineering Authority in NEMA 6P/IP68 Submersibles

In industries such as infrastructure and defense, long-term system performance depends on effective protection against environmental ingress. SLAYSON® NEMA 6P / IP68 submersible enclosures are engineered to meet these requirements through rated design, material selection, and verified testing.

With over 20 years of field-proven experience and 10,000+ deployments in the world’s most demanding environments, we support mission-critical applications where enclosure reliability directly affects system longevity. Every SLAYSON® enclosure undergoes thorough testing beyond basic IP ratings to validate performance under real-world operating conditions.

Why Engineers Choose SLAYSON® Submersible Enclosures. Every Time.

  • Verified Depth Performance Beyond Baseline Requirements: Our NEMA 6P / IP68 junction box range is depth-tested for prolonged submersion, with configurations validated from 5 meters to 400 meters, depending on enclosure series and application requirements. This testing exceeds baseline ingress protection standards and supports use in deep-water and permanently submerged environments.
  • Application-Driven Material Selection: At SLAYSON®, enclosure materials are selected based on environmental and chemical exposure considerations, including corrosion risk, pressure conditions, and operating temperature. Our extensive list of accessories then supports application-specific layouts and connection requirements to develop the specialized enclosure for each client’s needs.
  • Commercial Off-the-Shelf Availability With Modification Support: Timing is often just as critical as quality. We are proud to maintain the world’s largest inventory of ready-to-ship NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosures to support projects with compressed schedules. Standard products can be supplied as-is or modified through defined engineering processes to meet project-specific requirements while maintaining predictable lead times.
  • Engineering-Led Environmental Validation: We design and test all products through engineering-led test programs that reflect real operating conditions. Validation considers factors such as mechanical stress, corrosion exposure, vibration, and long-term environmental loading to support reliable performance.

NEMA 6P / IP68 submersible enclosures are designed for permanent submersion and sustained exposure. Applications involving temporary flooding or intermittent liquid ingress may be better served by SLAYSON®’s NEMA 6 / IP67 enclosure series.

Materials Used for NEMA 6P / IP68 Enclosures

SLAYSON® manufactures NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosures in four primary materials. Each supports specific operating conditions in industrial and defense applications.

Below are our enclosure material options and how they protect your critical hardware:

Stainless Steel

S

Type 316 stainless steel is the most commonly specified material for SLAYSON’s NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosures. Its corrosion resistance and structural strength support permanent submersion and sustained exposure in marine, coastal, and industrial environments. The alloy’s surface stability limits oxidation and reduces reliance on secondary coatings.

SLAYSON® supplies stainless steel enclosures with a polished finish as standard, with additional surface treatments available for reduced reflectivity or site-specific finishes.

Aluminium

A

Aluminum alloys, including 5052 and 6061, are used in select NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosure designs where weight, thermal characteristics, or machining requirements influence material selection. To support ingress protection performance in wet environments, aluminum enclosures are finished with protective coatings selected for the intended exposure conditions.

SLAYSON® offers multiple coating options to enable aluminum enclosures to meet NEMA 6P / IP68 requirements in applications where corrosion exposure is controlled.

Polyurethane

P

Rigid polyurethane composite is used in specific NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosure designs intended for high-pressure submersion. The material’s corrosion resistance and structural properties support use in subsea and deep-water applications. Polyurethane enclosures are manufactured with increased wall thickness and reduced joint interfaces to manage pressure loading.

These enclosures are supplied with Type 316 stainless steel fasteners as standard and can be produced in project-specific colors for identification and integration requirements.

Brass

B

Brass is used in select NEMA 6P / IP68 enclosure configurations where electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance are required alongside mechanical durability. The material’s copper content supports performance in wet and chemically active environments encountered in specific industrial and marine applications.

SLAYSON® brass enclosures are available with a range of surface finishes to support long-term stability and maintain performance under continuous exposure.

UL White

UL

UL certification is a safety standard issued by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to verify that products meet rigorous electrical, mechanical, and fire protection requirements. UL-certified enclosures undergo strict testing to ensure compliance with industry regulations, enhancing reliability and safety in industrial, commercial, and hazardous environments where regulatory approval is essential.

NEMA White

NEMA 6P

NEMA 6P is a rating defined by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) for enclosures that provide complete protection against dust, water ingress, and corrosion. It ensures durability in harsh conditions, including prolonged submersion. These enclosures are used in industrial, marine, and underground applications where environmental sealing is critical.

IP68 White

IP68

IP68 is an Ingress Protection rating defined by IEC 60529, indicating complete resistance to dust and prolonged water submersion beyond 1 meter. The first digit (6) signifies total dust-tight protection, while the second digit (8) confirms waterproofing under specified depths and durations, making it ideal for harsh and submerged environments.

IK10 White

IK10

IK10 is the highest impact protection rating under the IEC 62262 standard, indicating an enclosure can withstand 20 joules of impact energy. This equates to a 5kg object dropped from 400mm. IK10-rated enclosures provide maximum resistance against mechanical impacts, making them ideal for vandal-prone and high-risk environments.

EMC White

EMC

EMC-shielded enclosures are designed to block electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), ensuring compliance with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards. They feature conductive materials, gaskets, and coatings that prevent signal leakage and external interference, making them essential for protecting sensitive electronics in industrial, military, and medical applications.

NEMA 6P / IP68 Use Cases

SLAYSON® enclosures are the preferred choice for engineers managing high-value assets in the world’s most demanding sectors. Our NEMA 6P / IP68-rated enclosures are specified for applications where electrical equipment is exposed to prolonged water contact, submersion, or harsh environmental conditions.

Typical application environments include the following:

  • Infrastructure: Our enclosures are the industry benchmark for protecting electrical distribution hardware in subterranean manholes and underground vaults in flood-prone metro areas.
  • Defense: We design and manufacture military-grade enclosures for systems that require durable environmental sealing and mechanical stress resistance.
  • Navy: SLAYSON® is a preferred choice for naval operations worldwide. We provide enclosure configurations in materials such as Type 316 Stainless Steel and Brass to address corrosion resistance and long-term reliability in these operating conditions.
